Our Government has done a lot for children’s education and health. However, there is a sect of children – The Differently abled, who don’t have access to mainstream health benefits due to their special needs. Such children suffer from many undiagnosed health problems, especially vision impairment. Due to their inability to communicate their visual complaints, and non-cooperation for evaluation, these special children require a different type of testing, which can be done only by a trained and dedicated team of eye care professionals.
JNVR conducts specialized programs for vision screening for such children in the various Government and private special schools in Chennai. A team of ophthalmologists and optometrists who are certified in assessing vision of special children (ICOUNT certification for children with special needs), visit the special school premises. A complete check up is performed, with the help of equipment and vision charts, specifically designed for testing on special children.
The children with need for further testing are brought back in the JNVR vehicle, and given the necessary treatment, free of cost. Any intervention like glasses, therapy or surgery are provided to the patient free of cost and with compassion.
Follow-up visits are also scheduled to the premises after few months to collect feedback and adherence to the therapy given.
The special children of our country are in need of such helping hands. However, in order to sustain this program, we require funding and support. This will allow us to push forward with renewed vigor and motivation to help more differently abled children. We humbly request philanthropists; kind-hearted donors and corporates (as a part of CSR), to kindly donate generously to our cause. With your support and our expertise, we hope to screen and treat special children in all the Government and private schools of Tamilnadu. After all, every child is special !
